The Kremlin Armoury tour takes you around one of the top museums of Russia, the Armoury. The Armoury is like the Tower Museum in London or the Green Vault in Dresden, and it displays the treasures of the Russian royalty. The name is a bit misleading, since the Armoury is the historical name of the treasury of the Russian Tsars but it has not only arms and armour but all sorts of things - carriages, dresses, crowns, gold plate and more. The Armoury building was built in 1851 as part of the Grand Royal Palace, and has truly palatial, high-under-the-ceiling halls with impressive doors.
After meeting with your guide at the location of choice, you will proceed to the Borovitsky Tower and enter the Kremlin through the Borovitsky Gate. On the Kremlin grounds, you will enter the Armoury, and after checking in your coat, will start the tour. The Armoury exposition is located on two floors, and when accessing the second floor you will have a chance to walk up the Grand Staircase.
During the Armoury tour, your guide will take you around the following collections:
- coronations dresses of the Russian Tsarinas;
- precious vestments of the Russian higher clergy embroidered in gold and thousands of freshwater pearls;
- thrones of the Russian Tsars;
- diamond studded crowns and royal regalia;
- gilded carriages of the Russian royalty;
